A layer-7 by the osi model router — or reverse proxy — is a standard component of any production system: it sits between the outside world and a set of services, and between those services and one another, determining which request reaches which destination and under which rules. The question is rarely whether an organization has one, but what stands behind it. An open solution such as nginx is maintained by the organization's own team, at its own effort and on its own responsibility. A proprietary one couples the router with the responsibility of the people who built it. This service is the second arrangement: the router installed and configured at the center of an existing network, with the accountability for it held by those who made it.

Deployment is specific to the network it enters. The existing services are mapped as backends, the routing table is defined around the traffic that actually flows, and access rules are established. The outcome is a configured, operating router integrated with the real topology — not a binary accompanied by documentation and left to be assembled.

The service functions as the foundation for most of the others, since the router is the vantage point from which they operate; it can equally be taken in isolation, as a clean deployment the organization then runs on its own — though in that case the arrangement approaches the open-solution model, where the effort of operation returns to the organization's own team.

Its scope is bounded by the estate it enters. A conventional setup is a matter of days. A large, legacy, or heavily interdependent environment takes longer, and that assessment is made before the work begins rather than after.
